Government agency

A treaty-based, multilateral, or intergovernmental institution involved in governance, standards, policy, or coordination.

Use for discrete, source-backed events. Do not use for broad trends or ongoing issues.

A thematic issue, subject area, debate, or conceptual focus relevant to the Atlas.
Use for source-backed themes such as environmental impacts, governance themes, or technical domains. Do not use for named projects, people, or institutions.
Technology

A named technology, system, prototype, collection architecture, vehicle, or technical platform relevant to the Atlas.
Use for named technical systems such as AUVs, collection systems, or prototype platforms. Use vessel for ships and project for program/application records.
Legal instrument

A statute, treaty, regulation, executive order, formal rule, legal agreement, code, or other legal/policy instrument relevant to the Atlas.
Use for laws, regulations, treaty provisions, formal orders, and regulatory codes. Do not use for broad political positions.
Legal area

Use for concepts such as The Area where the entity is defined legally as well as geographically.
